What is WiBSD?

WiBSD is a specialized embedded distribution of FreeBSD operating system. You can DOWNLOAD it from this site.

Unique features

WiBSD offers whatever FreeBSD offers and adds some unique features. WiBSD boots from Compact Flash, harddrive or CD and runs from memory. Because of that it supports remote upgrades very easily and reliably which makes WiBSD distribution an excellent system for not easily physically accessible remote network boxes. System is configured from one place only (/etc/rc.conf) and all other configuration files are dynamically created during the booting. It contains optional and easily configurable IPFW firewall system. Your current configuration is automatically checked before rebooting which prevents you from rebooting a system that is believed not to be in a consistent state.

Easy to install

WiBSD can be installed from one image file which is written (by dd) to CF card or other media.

It is easy to contribute to WiBSD. Just find a part of WiBSD which you think could be improved, make those changes (carefully and cleanly) and submit that back to the project.
